The Bals' family – a brood of the Bals comes from two brothers – Peter and Paul. They were famous knights and the king Kazimierz the Great gave them some possessions in Sanok. The Bals transfered their abode to Hoczew, where they were the richest family in the region. Their property included valleys of the Hoczewka and Solinka rivers. They were the owners of Berezka, Hoczew and Średnia Wieś. The arms of the Bals was Gozdawa.
